Rainbow Rice
I grabbed some rice, pasta, and tapioca (of all things) for this activity. Just put it in a ziploc bag, add some food coloring, and a bit of rubbing alcohol and then let the kiddo squish it together. We put it on plates outside to dry and now we have some fun stuff to play in. Kyle loves to scoop and dump it from bowl to bowl. Or just dump it all on the ground. Or fling it as far as he can using his hands. Which is why we play with it OUTSIDE.
Volcanoes
OK this is a stretch calling it volcanoes, but we all remember putting vinegar on baking soda and watching it bubble. How many science fair projects did you see in elementary school of someone making a volcano? So that's what we did...three year old style. We dumped baking soda on a cookie sheet, added food coloring to make it more interesting, and then let Kyle use a medicine dropper to squirt vinegar on it. Kyle got a big kick out of seeing the bubbles and hearing the fizz for about 2 seconds. He was more interested in squirting out all of the red food coloring until the bottle was empty.
