April 27th cannot get here fast enough for this family! Sweet little Beck will be getting ear tubes that day, and we are really, really hoping for some serious improvement in his health from them. As of today, the poor dude is working on ear infection #6 and is taking more antibiotics. Ugh.
I'm experiencing some mommy guilt because I didn't think he had another infection. Who knows when the infection started because he hasn't shown any of his normal signs of being sick, like low fever, congestion and runny nose and overall crankiness. His sleep has been disrupted, but that's nothing new...he's never been a good night time sleeper. In fact, Matt made an appointment with our doctor today to talk about the sleep issues because an 8 month old just shouldn't be waking up every 1-2 hours every night. So when the doctor did his usual checking of the ears, nose, and throat, he discovered that both of Beck's ears were infected. Well, that explains the waking up every hour for the past 2 nights! Poor baby boy.
We've been pretty lenient (for lack of better word) about Beck not sleeping much because it's just so hard to know if he's waking up so much from the fluid in his ears bothering him, or because he's trained us all to wake up every 2 hours on the dot. So we are hoping that the tubes do their job to get the fluid out of his ears which will in turn help him sleep better. I don't think he'll all the sudden start sleeping in 8 hour stretches, (he really likes checking in with mommy several times a night) but hopefully with no more pain we can work on getting some zzz's around here!
Praying for your little guy - tubes have made a HUGE difference in Jacob's health!! He has 9 infections in 12 months before I was like "ummm... can we DO something" and was sent to an ENT... the process was SO fast and the ENT amazing... Jacob's ears have been clear since, which means no infections and thus his sinus issues are better and he's only had bronchitis once since the tubes (less fluid in his body to back up and cause issues). Praying Beck gets relief and your family too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'm so glad Jacob's tube experience has been positive! Thanks for the encouragement Elizabeth!
